Russia!!!!
Jan. 5th, 2008 10:56 amI've been with LJ since very early on and am closing in on my 9th year here, but the community isn't what it used to be. Indeed, I believe I am the only person in my group that still posts here with any regularity. Between Myspace and now an exploding Facebook the vibe here is completely changed and slowly my reason for being here has too.
Initially is was just a fun spot to swap quizzes and stories of angst with college friends. Since then, this space has become more of a personal journal, a sort of secret garden I keep my real thoughts. Admittedly, I got an early start after going through a breakup and purging my old journal from public view. I returned with a new one a few months later, but the linkage was broken. Quizzes, surveys, and my circle prior to 2005 live on Myspace now. Facebook is were my current classmates and friends live...though it seems likely Myspace is going to need to change to stay relevant.
I honestly can't remember the last time I had an interaction with someone else on LJ. I have a couple friends that monitor there old journals and may shoot me a text or message on another site about it; but thats about it. Due to this, I keep this place completely for myself and do not feel tied to this specific journal site as a result.
LJ being bought by a Russian company is the nudge I needed. Though I have no investment in the seemingly never ending pissing match between my countries government and the government of the Russian Federation, it does seem likely that it will cause problems for me remaining here. Through nothing has been physically moved and the new owner swears servers and such will remain in the U.S....I find that very hard to believe. I don't want all my content lost and so I think its time to export my content to go somewhere else.
Right now I am leaning toward Deadjournal, though an upgrade to Moveable Type or possibly Vox are intriguing. I did start a Vox account to see how it plays, though its not clear to me if I can fully import my LJ content in. Anyway, this is my last LJ post. I'm not going to bother leaving a "find me link" since I doubt anyone would bother.
